Raphë is a queer performance & plastician artist working primarily in performance art, video, photography & live events. Raphë is the paradigm where the futuro-queer folklore nexus exists. In his work, metaphysical beings are brought to life, gifted with neo-ceremonial movements and embodied through hand-crafted costumes. Image-based, Raphë’s work combines his body and craft to generate interpretations of posthuman queer eschatology.
Raphë’s work has been presented in Canada and Australia, disseminated mainly in sub-cultural spaces; sometimes presented in galleries & theatre venues. Recent performance highlights include performance at whatthepop! (CAN) 2020 art event, Horschamps Co-op in Austin (CAN) 2020, HONCHO DISKO Melbourne (AUS) 2019 & group performance with artist Carlos Maria Romero at MAI Montréal Arts Interculturels (CAN) 2019.
Raphë is currently working on a new body of work, HOLOTYPË, a long-duration performance based on previous episodic work, for dissemination in 2021.
Raphë is based in Tiohtià: ke / Montreal, located in the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá: ka nation, Keepers of the Eastern Door of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Tiohtià: ke / Montreal is recognised as a historic gathering place for many Indigenous nations, including the Algonquin peoples.
